Maria Gabriel

Maria Gabriel, brings a unique blend of expertise in both biotechnology and law, specializing in Patent, Trade Mark, Plant Varieties registration, and Design Prosecution. With a diverse educational background, Maria earned her Bachelor of Technology in Bio-Technology, followed by a Masters in Immunology & Immunogenetics from the University of Manchester and a second Masters degree in Virology from Amity University, where she graduated with distinction.

Maria’s projects reflect her deep involvement in scientific research, ranging from cloning human TTR and MC domain of Sup35 protein to studying the genetic evolution of Hemagglutinin (HA) of Pandemic Influenza A 2009 (H1N1) Virus. Complementing her scientific pursuits, she obtained a Law Degree, becoming a member of the Bar Council of Delhi.
Her commitment to intellectual property is underscored by attending an IPR course at RGNIIPM, Nagpur, focusing on Patent drafting. Maria actively engages in international conferences and is a regular participant in events hosted by organizations like the Asian Patent Attorneys Association, AIPLA, AIPPI, and FIPCI.
Beyond her legal prowess, Maria is deeply involved in social issues, particularly the empowerment of women. She holds honorary positions in the Delhi and National YWCA, contributing as a Board Member, Finance Committee Member, Assistant Treasurer, Chairperson of the Personnel Committee, and Member of the National Executive Committee.

Dr. Chitra holds an M.S. degree in Pharmacy with a specialization in Natural Products from the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER, Chandigarh). Her doctoral studies, also in the field of natural products, were completed at the same institute in 2005. Additionally, she earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy from Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Tamil Nadu, in 1999.

Not only a gold medalist in both her undergraduate and postgraduate courses, Dr. Chitra possesses an MBA degree in marketing from IGNOU and a Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights from the National Law School University, India. As a registered patent agent and advocate, she brings extensive experience in techno-commercial and techno-legal domains. Dr. Chitra has numerous research articles and patents to her credit, showcasing her proficiency in the isolation, characterization, and biological testing of natural products.
Her career commenced as an Assistant Manager at a pharmaceutical company in Delhi, where she excelled in managing product life cycles, project management, obtaining regulatory approvals, and negotiating successful business deals. She then transitioned to a prestigious IP law firm in Delhi, focusing on patent filing, prosecution, and oppositions.
During her tenure at the previous firm, Dr. Chitra played a pivotal role in offering strategic advice on patent portfolio development, providing opinions on patentability and freedom to operate, and handling the drafting and filing of patent applications and oppositions in India and abroad. Notably, she contributed to the team that successfully managed the first Compulsory License granted in India for the drug Sorafenib. Dr. Chitra has been involved in numerous litigations of pharmaceutical compounds in the High Court and Supreme Court of Delhi, as well as other High Courts across India.
With over 250 oppositions filed in the Indian patent office and various jurisdictions, Dr. Chitra’s expertise extends to drafting and filing hundreds of applications nationally and internationally. She has mentored and trained individuals for projects in management and intellectual property rights, regularly delivering seminars and lectures in various forums.
Specializing in advising clients in the life science sector, Dr. Chitra excels in building, managing, and developing intellectual property rights portfolios. Her accomplishments include planning and constructing IP portfolios for multiple companies and institutions, conducting “Freedom to Operate” reports, and providing techno-legal opinions. As a visiting professor at several academic institutes, she shares her knowledge and conducts workshops across India.

Dr. V. Gopalakrishnan is a consultant and advises all Mechanical and Electrical Inventions. He went to IIT, Madras for his undergrad in Mechanical Engineering. He started his career at BHEL, Trichy as a Graduate Apprentice in 1969. And, after 37 years of work, he retired as Chief Executive (Executive Director) in 2006. During his time there, he was instrumental in advancing the organization in multiple ways including signing MOUs with IIT, Madras, NIT, Tiruchirappalli and PSG Tech, Coimbatore for joint work in academics and R&D with BHEL in Tiruchirappalli.
He has also been in close association with academia throughout his life and has worked in collaboration with NIT, Trichy since the early 70s. He loves interacting with students and is deeply passionate about educating the new generation. He is an adjunct professor in Serval premier institutes across India including IIT, NIT and others. He has written four novels, which are published and available online.
Dr. RANJIT BHATTACHARYA

Dr. Bhattacharya is in-charge of Lex IP Care at Mumbai. He holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and a Bachelor of Law. He has been the Deputy Controller of Patents for 20 years and has handled all aspects of Patents in the areas of Chemistry. He is also a Registered Patent Agent.
Dr. SMRRUTHI V. VENUGOPAL

Dr. Smrruthi V. Venugopal is a Post-Doctoral Scientist with Cedar-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA (USA). She has 4 years of experience in the field of Prostate Cancer Progression and Metabolism. She received her Ph.D. in Biology with emphasis on Prostate Cancer Metastasis from Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta, GA (USA). At CAU, she was awarded the Department of Biology Scholarship for her Graduate Research in Prostate Cancer Metastasis She also holds a master’s degree in Human Genetics from University of Leeds, UK and Bachelor of Technology in Biotechnology from Sathyabama University, Chennai, India.
She has published several papers in the field of Prostate Cancer Metastasis and Progression in well-known scientific journals such as The Prostate and Journal of Cell Physiology. She has recently authored a book chapter on “Cholesterol and Prostate Cancer” in the book titled “Nutritional Oncology”.
Her work experience also comprises working for one of the leading pharmaceutical companies Syngene International Limited, a subsidiary of Biocon. At Syngene, she has been instrumental in establishing their electrophysiology assay for screening of potential Schizophrenia drug candidates.
She has a unique profile as she is an experienced bench scientist and a bioinformatician with experience analyzing RNA-seq, CHIP-seq, ATAC-seq and CUT&RUN data using R and python programming platforms.
She also has experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate biology majors in basic molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, physiology, and anatomy. She advises the team on Patentability on Biotechnology inventions.

Dr. Premlatha is a doctorate in Medical Microbiology. She has several years of research and teaching experience in the field of Immunology. She has been a researcher since1988 and has worked on projects such as Developed Research Collaboration with MSD Wellcome trust Hilleman Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. (2015-2017). She was was Sr. Lecturer Amity University amd (2007-2011) Asst. Professor (Gr.III), Amity University from 2011-2017. She is currently a visiting Faculty at Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University since June 2022.
